Colourful leggingsHow & why did Prêtcurry come to existence?

On my birthday in the year 2016, I had an epiphany as to where my life is heading?! What am I doing!? I did love my job but wanted to create so much more in this lifetime. Soon after that night, I quit my life in Bombay, came back to Kolkata – the city where I grew up in.

My love for fashion & lifestyle came naturally since my childhood. I would dismantle my old bracelets to make other accessories and nick-nacks; made clay models with the soil from my backyard; Built a makeshift library in the neighbourhood during summer vacation; arranged costume parties (did all of these even before I was below 10yrs old). Love for creating things kept on growing stronger, year by year.  I was always playing with different mediums, mixing things together just like how Indian curries are made – different, vast and distinct from each other.

Currently (sitting in the year 2020), I am creating upcycled products, culturing vegan cheese, growing an edible garden, making hand made lovelies for some lucky souls and propagating million other ideas running inside me.

I grew up believing fashion is not just about the brands or trends, its how you bring your own personality out, using things that are readily available to you. Frequently buying new clothes or keep changing it along with the trends not only causes massive landfill wastes but also is a waste of money. I would say go travel with that money. Explore!

Soon after I came back to Kolkata, Pretcurry was born from my need to spread awareness on Sustainable fashion, talk about the body positivity and to keep creating art.

Prêt literally means ‘ready’ in french, famously known for prêt-à-porter meaning ‘ready-to-wear’. And dictionary meaning of curry – ‘a dish of meat, vegetables, etc., cooked in an Indian-style sauce of strong spices’.

Pretcurry as a brand is built on the ethos of sustainability, upcycling/recycling, body-positivity, organic/natural products, and empowerment. Thus Pretcurry offers a mixed bowl of divine things from my world to you.
